| Chet Holcomb was born in Johnson City, New York on
October 13, 1966. He lived in Broome County until he was 17. He studied at Cornell University (1984-1989), where he received a bachelor of science degree in biology. In 1989, he moved to Daytona Beach, Florida, and began making art at his family's restaurant supply warehouse. In November of 1992 he moved to Washington, D.C., and continued to work. The work was exhibited at several local establishments including Trumpets Restaurant and Lounge, where, as a waiter and bartender, he was able to participate in the representation and sale of his work. He exhibited at several national juried exhibitions and group shows. In November of 1996, Chet moved to New York City. where he co-created Gallery 24 (now Yossi Milo Gallery). Gallery 24 was the venue for three solo exhibitions including a studio show(1997), "Looking for Simple" (1998) and "The Puzzle" (1999.) In March or 2002, He returned to Washington, where he lived, worked and continues to show in DC's Wohlfarth Galleries. His work includes a project titled "Vote female.", an appeal to the common sense of all persons who believe that democracy in theory is not a suitable alternative for democracy in action. He has created physical and conceptual art to support the social change that is prerequisite to the resolution and "cure" of the most pressing social issues of our time. This work includes a number of paintings, T-shirts and literature. A very small part in the very large task at hand. I n November of 2004, Chet began work on a building in Tunnel, NY. Once a Methodist church, the building was built in 1921 and deconsecrated in 1997. He continues to repair, restore, and reconstitute the building. In the process, it has become a home, a studio, a writing loft, a place to show art. Chet's most recent work "The Bricks Show" was exhibited at Wohlfarth Galleries (Washington, DC), Mark Palmer Gallery (Paducah, Kentucky) and Night Gallery (studio and art space of artist Shane Van Pelt, Binghamton, NY). Chet continues to spread the "Vote Female." message, and encourages others to to the same.
